Did you know that Thomas Edison was afraid of the dark? His fear drove him to solve a problem and revolutionize an era. He is known as one of the greatest inventors of all times. He is a favorite of mine-his philosophy of life has been the greatest inspiration to me. Our children know his quotes by heart and for very good reasons-He never lets fear stand in the way of his aspirations.
Botton line, on the other side of our best life is our decision to step out pass our fears.
What is your fear? What’s holding you back from stepping out?
Is it?…
Fear of failure,
Fear of inadequacy,
Fear of comparison,
Fear of what they think or say,
Fear of rejection,
Fear of being hurt or taken advantage of,
Fear of man (people pleasing, liked by everyone, validated by people, approval of man)
Bill Johnson describes it best , The root of fear is simply our lack of confidence in God. Our fear is really just a trust issue.
If we really are completely honest, we fear because we don’t really trust that God will come through to :
-Protect our kids,
-Help us with our career/business,
-Find us a suitable spouse,
-Heal our brokenness,
-Sustain and provide for us,
-Direct our steps to be successful
Your fears might be different from mine and mine from yours but make no mistake we ALL have fears. The question is, will you face your fears? Will you step out pass them and leave them in the rearview or will you focus so much on them that they become your reality? The choice is yours but as I stated in my last blog- I have decided to give my fears a black-eye. I choose to trust God. I will step out despite my fears …for I know the one in whom I trust, and I am sure that he is able to guard what I have entrusted to him until the day of his return. (2 Timothy 1:12). I will experience fear but I will not let it stop me from moving forward, venturing into the unknown, making decisions and trying new things.
It is better to try and fail than to not try at all. Try, Try and keep Trying!
My relationships
My friendships
My marriage
My brokenness
My past
My childhood
I trust the Lord over other people’s opinion of me.
In my current situation.
My emotions.
I trust the Lord with the things I understand and the things I don’t understand.
There is no place for fear when we Trust God with everything!
Fear will be the opponent you must fight to walk out your purpose and destiny. Trusting and having total confidence in the character and nature of God is the key to walking in daily victory over fear. Trust in a never changing, always faithful, dependable, trustworthy God who is always fighting for you and has your back. Trust Him above your fears.
Don’t let fear boss you around but like Edison, I pray you for you to push pass your fears into a place of discovery and purpose.
Here are a few of my favorite quotes from Thomas Edison:
